Ceramsite (Ceramic sand) is an artificial spherically shaped bauxite sand manufactured by melting bauxite in an electric arc furnace at a high temperature followed by a proprietary spraying process. Ceramsite is made of mullite crystals with an extremely stable chemistry quality. It is made by firing spherical granules, not by crushing. Chemistry and physical properties result in numerous performance advantages compared with silica sand, chromite sand, or zircon sand.
